Scientific topics currently studied around these accelerators

The scientific topics developed at GANIL cover a wide domain ranging from atomic physics to the applications of the irradiation induced modifications. Only those indicated by an asterisk are included in the EMIR network activity.

• Physics of the ion - atom, ion - molecule and ion – aggregates collisions.

  • Study of mechanisms of energy transfer: electron emission and sputtering of ions and neutrals.
  • Study of radiation induced damage in materials and induced structural modifications (mainly in oxides, carbides, nitrides and polymers).
  • Simulation of the ageing of nuclear materials under irradiation.
  • Use of induced effects for nano-structuring the matter (production of nano-porous membranes, creation and modification of nanoprecipitates).
